What AI text drags along
Chatbots write in Markdown. Paste their output into an email, a CMS, a wiki, or a chat message and you get literal asterisks around the bold words, hash marks in front of headings, and a blank line after every bullet. Cleaning it by hand means picking through the text character by character. Pasting it into a "text cleaner" website means shipping your content to someone else's server.

Formatting is half the problem
The transforms above fix how AI text looks. How it reads is a separate job: the em-dashes, the "it's not just X" constructions, the suspiciously even rhythm. For that, Rewire Text has an AI transform called Humanize, which rewrites the style without changing the meaning. Questions
Does cleanup need an API key or AI?
No. Strip Markdown Formatting, Remove Blank Lines, Remove Extra Spaces, and Unwrap Text are deterministic transforms: ordinary code that runs instantly on your device, offline, with the same result every time.
Will Strip Markdown Formatting delete my links?
It keeps the link text and drops the Markdown markup around it, so "[quarterly report](https://…)" becomes "quarterly report". Bold, italics, inline code, headings, and blockquote markers are removed the same way, leaving clean plain text.
Can it remove the em-dashes and AI phrasing too?
That is a writing-style problem rather than a formatting one, so it is handled by the AI Humanize transform, which removes em-dashes and common AI phrasing without changing what the text says. See the humanize page for that workflow.
Does this work in Word, Google Docs, and email?
Yes. Select the pasted text wherever it landed, press the hotkey, run the transform. The cleaned text replaces the selection in place.
What about text that pastes with hard line breaks?
